It's a single, 5-petalled HT; lemon-yellow but the open bloom fades to cream in summer. The buds are very long. Glandular pedicels. Large hips, retaining long calyces. Mostly low-growing but can reach 5' / 1.5m. Commercially available, from the Friends of Bishop's Lodge (courtesy of Margaret)
Buds are a deeper gold. New growth is red. Hips retain their calyxes. Early reference describe "egg shaped" hips; the HelpMeFind photo shows round hips.
'Irish Harmony' 1904 is a possibility but was said to have more claret than the foundling shows.
‘Bloomfield Dainty’ 1924 has been eliminated as the two-inch blooms are too small. 'Ulster Gem' 1916 has been eliminated as it was consistently said to be "yellow".
