Discovered by Peter Simon Pallas (Germany, before 1785).
Introduced in United Kingdom by John Bell in circa 1790 as 'P. daurica Andrews'.

Red to purple.  up to 6 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Medium, single bloom form.  Very early.

Height: 18" to 28" (45 to 70cm).
