Bred by Victor Lemoine (France, before 1839).
Class:
Group 3, Herbaceous Group, Late, Small-flowered.  
Bloom:
Purple, light yellow anthers, ages to violet .  Strong fragrance.  4 to 6 petals.  Average diameter 1.5".  Small, single bloom form.  Late spring to early autumn.  
Habit:

Height: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  In early spring, cut back to just above the lowest set of healthy buds.
