Introduced by Unknown in 1894 as 'Rosa californica 'Plena''.

Tall, arching, armed with thorns / prickles, climbing, suckers on its own roots, upright.  Matte foliage.  3 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 6'1" to 11½' (185 to 350cm).

USDA zone 5a through 9b.  Vigorous.

See References for questions about this rose which is commonly dated to 1894, the date of Geschwind's 'Theano' and at least 16 years before Willmott published The Genus Rosa.. It is most probably identical to 'Theano', as there seems to be no trace of it in the wild. The rose pictured by Parsons in "The Genus Rosa" looks different however.
