Origin:
Bred by Dr. C. C. Hurst (United Kingdom, circa 1930).
Introduced in United Kingdom by J. Burrell and Co. in circa 1930 as 'Rosa doncasterii 'Macrophylla''.
Class:
Hybrid Macrophylla, Hybrid Moyesii, Hybrid Roxburghii.  
Bloom:
Carmine-pink.  Large, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Arching, few or no prickles/thorns, upright, well-branched.  Large, matte foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 6'1" to 9'10" (185 to 300cm).  Width: 4' (120cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Vigorous.  produces decorative hips.
