Magazine (Nov 1911) Page(s) 73. STANLEY. Species — P. albiflora. Originated by Kelway. Donated by Farr. Descripion of bloom — Type of bloom single. Color (total effect) dark crimson 5 (165); guards clear. Fragrance unpleasant X. Blooming time early to midseason. Large size. Description of plant — Habit of plant erect, medium tall, medium compact. Growth strong and healthy. Stem medium long, strong, vivid red. Blooming habit free. Buds borne in clusters. Foliage medium furnished, dark green, medium size ; veins red. Commercial value — For cut bloom poor; landscape value good. Variety as a whole good. Remarks — Not as tall a grower as " Frank Bramley," possibly a heavier bloomer. " Stanley " is the better of the two varieties. This variety should not be confused with "Stanley" (Crousse, 1879), which is a double sort. See Bulletin 278, page 292.

Stanley.—This is a single variety, the flowers of which are globose, at least until fully expanded, and have broad, deep crimson-red petals, sometimes shaded with violet along the centre. All four received Awards of Merit at the Drill Hall on the 10th inst., and were shown by Messrs. Kelway & Son, Langport.

Kelway and Son, Langport, Somerset, were several new kinds, of which the following were each given an award of merit: Stanley, an intense crimson-coloured single flower, the deepest we know of its shade; Princess Mary, a very double pale lemon-yellow variety of charming beauty; Sainfoin, the most striking of all, the flowers very full, large and brilliant, self rose; and Duchess of Teck, the guard florets of which are pale rose, the centre of the bloom creamy-white.
