My 2nd year with this rose and my wife wants me to pull them out. The blooms are an untidy ruffled ball that never seem to fully open before they are ready for deadheading. And I've yet to detect any scent at all. Planted alongside Versigny and floriana, both of which are flowering well with more than average fragrance, Updating these comments in sept. Both of these roses were plagued with blackspot which seemed to infect everything else around them, despite me spraying with a sulphur based treatment as soon as I spotted the problem. Awful plants, spindly growth in their 2nd year and almost defoliated as I removed the infected leaves.
I think these roses are meant for people in hot, scorching Mediterranean climates, cause the sad reality is many of the prized roses, like heirloom and david austin just cannot perform here, even if they say they can. They might do something in spring and autumn, but in summer they almost die every year, they go into heat dormancy, or produce very weak stems, or blooms just burn and die off in a day.
