Book (1824) Page(s) 1151-1152. The Gebrüder Baumann at Bollweiler in Upper rhine have in their large plantations almost all well-known roses, as well as very new, very beautiful rose varieties, which they have obtained from seed, e.g. Archiduchess Henriette... ...Double damask rose, Erzherzogin Henriette (Rosa damascena fl. pleno, Archiduchesse Henriette). One of the dainty roses. Grows bushy, has somewhat tender branches, armed densely with quite straight, thin prickles of varying length. Her happy green foliage, which leap to the eye from far...with tender leaflets, finely serrated, smooth above and not very rough below, vary often their form, so that one often finds 3, 5 or 7 of equal size on the quite horizontal common petioles. Occasionally two large Leaflets have 2 small ones as appendages, so that the variability of form and placement of the leaves becomes almost infinite. The ruffled-like rose clsuters emerge on medium high, very prickly canes from the dense and pleasant bush, to 3, 5 to 10 or more, uneven smooth buds. The elongated ovoid receptacle is almost smooth, the sepals very long foliaceous, and these leaflets have scalloped tips. The rose is extremely double in her highest perfection, of beautiful centifolia-form and of happy pink colour....This variety seems to have originated from the mixing of the polen of a Centifolia and a Damask rose, and if she would only bloom more easily, would be perhaps preferred over all other rose varieties.
