Bred by César Chambard (France, before 1920).
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1920 as 'Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1922 as 'Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel'.

Climber, Hybrid Tea, Cl..  
Bloom:
Crimson, vermilion shading.  Strong, centifolia fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Climbing, well-branched.  Wrinkled (rugose) foliage.  

Height: 7' to 12' (215 to 365cm).  Width: 8' (245cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Can be used for pillar.  Hardy.

Notes:
The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is growing a rose called 'Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel #2'. It is not certain that this is the same rose.
Dedicated to the Breeder's nephew, who was killed in World War I.
