The authenticity of this variety is very uncertain. The specimen at L'Haÿ, described above, is attributed to Coquerel, an amateur from Le Havre. This 'Belle Herminie' effectively figures in the catalogue of Prévost of 1829, described thus: "purple-brown branches, glandular, unarmed. Medium size bloom, full, light lilac-flesh, pale edges". It joined L'Haÿ after 1902 : in his personal example of the Catalogue 1902, Gravereaux noted by hand : "Belle Herminie (Coquerel), light lilac" (no 7421, p. 101), which corresponds well to the description of 1829. One thus could legitimately thinbk that it is this variety which is at Roseraie de L'Haÿ. The doubts result from the fact that the specimen of L'Haÿ has lighter edges, but is not "unarmed" and its tone does not really seems to be "light lilac-flesh". The catalogues of the period mention numerous other 'Belle Herminie', resp. 'Belle Hermine' and 'Belle Hermione' .....Only Vibert, between 1821 and 1826, then in 1838, obtained about 15 'Belle Herminie' which he distinguished from each other in his catalogues with simple numbering. Contrary to that of Coquerel, these latter are spotted, as the specimen at L'Haÿ. One cannot exclude that this is in fact an obtention of Vibert. It is impossible to decide as the rare specimens which exist outside of L'Haÿ - at the Rosarium Sangerhausen and in US trade - probably are of L'Haÿ provenance.
