'Star of Waltham' rose Reviews & Comments

I am really starting to wonder whether this Hybrid Perpetual has a good dose of Portland in it's make up, as the way in which the flowers are held in a cluster of leaves is very reminiscent of my Portlands, and not so much as my other H.Ps.
It also repeats reliably at least once a year, usually in August, with a very good crop of flowers in the second flush, with or without deadheading before hand, and produces lots of very attractive hips. The only slight issue is that it sometimes gets blackspot, but then everything here gets it at some point, so it's not really any worse or better than most! A superb rose, and easily one of the most reliable and enjoyable of the H.Ps. I have so far had the pleasure of owning. A true "Star"!

This rose sets hips quite well if not dead-headed, although whether they form without being pollinated by hand I am not as sure. Number of seeds is between 5-10 on average. Fertile seeds in 2017 numbered 8 out of 16 in total from two hips.
Edit 6 October 2020; In answer to my own question, I can confirm that this rose does set hips very readily, with or without hand pollination.
