A lot of people in China commend SC for its strong fragrance and remontancy. But strangely enough, though my SC has given me 3 flushes during spring(truly remontant), non of them seems to have "strong fragrance", only very mild smell....
Even troubles me more is that both the plants I and my mom grow(which are in different zones in China) died in the summer time, is SC not heat-tolerant?

I live in Atlanta GA. I bought this rose from High Country Roses. It looks like the photos during spring. Mid summer it loses its leaves, presumably to disease. I don't smell a damask scent. Mine is light and peppery. I sometimes wonder if mine is actually Sweet Chariot. It does seem vigorous for a mini rose.

Frederick Maryland 7a This rose has lots of blooms and keeps on putting out more. They are small and a very pretty magenta. I'm not getting much scent. We are in heavy blackspot pressure right now as well as high heat. The lower leaves are yellowing and there is some blackspot on the lower leaves. The upper leaves look fine and it is putting out more blooms.
update 2024- In the spring this rose has a massive flush of pretty purple blooms that weigh the branches down. Then it does smaller flushes until the worst of the summer heat in august. At that point the lower bush gets very yellowed and loses a lot of leaves and it looks unattractive. By comparison- Rockwall Sesquicentennial (from Antique rose emporium) is the same size bush, in the August heat it has lost some leaves overall, but it still appears attractive. I think the thing with sweet chariot is that the leaves are so small and tiny (miniature) that they fall of easier and quicker. I think this rose might be better in a pot and then it could be moved out of view while it isn't looking as good. As for scent- The scent is noticeable when I stand back from the bush and take the smell of the whole bush in at once while it has a lot of blooms on it. There isn't much scent from a single flower, probably because the flowers are so small.
