I have had really great luck with Sweet Sue here in the west metro of Portland, OR. Miniatures almost always blackspot here, so I often avoid them. There are some rare exceptions (Rose Gilardi, Scarlet Moss, Playgold, Cinderella and Baby Love are some examples). I took a chance on Sweet Sue because I liked the mixed lineage involved in it and wanted to try it in hybridizing. Well, the little midget is a powerhouse bloomer and it does not have one spot of blackspot on it despite being a very dense plant. The blooms are very informal but the mass effect is pleasing in a perennial border. I would refer to it as "cute and easy to grow".

Sweet Sue is a pale pink micromini that make blooms so small that buds are only about the size of a match head. Even fully open, the flowers are less then 1/4 in diameter. The foliage is just as small as the flowers for perfect tiny vases. The plant get about 12 inches wide and tall. This small bush should truthfully be only grown as a contain plant. It cannot compete in a bed with larger varieties.

My mother created this rose and named it for me. Why would she pick this tiniest of rose to name for her 'big girl'? Because I convinced her that it was worth introducing as a rose to use in mini arrangements. I sure didn't think that she would then make it my namesake. I was kinda hoping that my rose would be a rose champion, like Jean Kenneally or Irresistible. Oh, well...that's the way it goes.
