This is actually the red florist rose I have always liked. Most red florist roses miss the "romance" mark, and tend to look very bright, with very angular form. 'Freedom' comes to mind. Its not a very romantic florist rose. This one is very round, somewhat large, and both warm and dark.

It is truly a beautiful rose. I don't know why so few people have it in their garden. I just rescued it from a large weed patch that was trying to swallow it and it had three big beautiful perfect red roses blooming. What a trooper. Florist roses seem to be the toughest roses in my garden. We had one of the hottest summers that I can remember. They did the best with the least amount of water. With the Summers getting hotter at least in our 9B zone, I think that we ought be paying more attention to heat tolerance in our evaluations of roses. I'll have to smell Red Paris tomorrow. After Olympiad made huge $$$, the market was flooded with reds in every category imaginable. This, combined with the fact that they could now produce red w/out "bluing" in many variations, led to an over-saturation.
Now, they are less common as HT introductions, and the ones that generally do have public appeal, are not garden-worthy (Black Magic is a prime example of a rose that only grows well in certain climates, but people love it).
And, also, newer releases that tend to stay around long enough to be noticed tend to be fragrant reds.
