Giovanni Borgatti was no sooner discharged from his miltary service after the first World War, than he perfected his horticultural knowledge by spending three years at French and German nurseries. On his return to Italy, he raised his first roses. There are about twenty Borgatti varieties, but, a rare preprogative, only 'Jacqueline Mennrath', 'Ninfea' and 'Saonara' are still recognized as valid by their creator.

Eccone i tratti essenziali: una giovane sposa alsaziana perde tragicamente la vita a Saverne; un’amica della scomparsa vede la foto di una rosa che Borgatti ha presentato quell’anno al concorso-novità di Saverne ed ottiene che venga dedicata alla giovane scomparsa; sarà la prima varietà italiana premiata con medaglia d’oro in quel concorso. Purtroppo, oggi si ha la quasi certezza che neppure un esemplare della “Jacqueline Mannrath” sia scampata alla guerra, alle crede gelate alsaziane e all’incuria giustificata dai tempi calamitosi che seguirono

The next step takes him to planned hybridization and, among the first varieties obtained, Borgatti recognizes “Jacqueline Mennrath” as his best. To this rose is related a sad story: a young Alsatian bride tragically lost her life in Saverne; a friend of hers saw a photo of a rose that Borgatti presented that year to the Saverne Rose Trials and had it dedicated to the perished young woman; that will be the first Italian variety awarded with gold medal in that Trials. Unfortunately, today we know almost for sure that not even a specimen of “Jacqueline Mennrath” survived the war, the hard alsatian frost and the neglect justified by the calamitous times that followed

Giovanni BORGATTI, de Bologne, a obtenu un beau succès au Concours International de Saverne avec « Libia », « Rosalba » (médaille d'argent), « Jacqueline Mennrath » (médaille d'or), « Giuliana Borgatti » et « 116 C » qui ont obtenu la médaille d'argent.

Elles ont été primées à Saverne en même temps que la Jacqueline Meunrath, d'une extrême beauté, couleur jaune vif et abricot rougeâtre, qui a obtenu dans cette ville la médaille d'or. BORGATTI a encore en ré-serve d'autres variétés aussi primées et qui prochainement seront mises dans le commerce.

Pernetiana. Jacqueline Mennrath (Souvenir de Claudius Pernet +Willowmere). — Fleur d'un joli mélange de couleur jaune vif et abricot rougeâtre, de grandeur moyenne, pleine et de forme parfaite. Beau bouton allongé, de longue durée, solitaire, porté par un fort pédoncule. Arbuste de bonne végétation. Feuillage vert foncé rougeâtre. Très florifère. Variété de grand effet et séduisante.
