The breeder is Giuseppe Luigi Cazzaniga, brother of Febo Giuseppe Cazzaniga (see the other comments). He bred also Selvetta, Dr.ssa Aslan, Loretta Goggi and probably many others .. Is it possible to open a new entry for this breeder?

Giuseppe Luigi Cazzaniga from Como now listed as the breeder of 'Romina'.

Can I check the spelling please. 'Dr. S. S. A. Aslan' (I gather a cyclamen pink HT). We don't as yet have this listed.

At page 73 of "Annuario della Rosa" 1983 there is a photo and the caption says " Prof. Ana Aslan. Varietà ottenuta dal rosicultore non professionista Giuseppe Luigi Cazzaniga di Monguzzo".

Like the rose 'Selvetta' which I commented on some days ago, this rose was bred by FG Cazzaniga's brother, Giuseppe Luigi Cazzaniga of Monguzzo. It was dedicated to the "madrina" (celebrity hostess) of the Monza Trials in 1972, the actress Romina Power.

... however S. Coggiatti, in L'Italia Agricola 1972 page 659, refers that "La più bella rosa italiana 1972" was a "varietà non ancora denominata con fiori bianco-rosati (categoria a fiore grande) Ottenitore: G. Cazzaniga di Monza (italia); sigla CAP" and that another rose (varietà non ancora denominata, sigla BUL) by the same breeder got a "Certificato di merito".

It might be a mistake by Coggiatti .... In fact a somewhat similar sign (CAM) identifies the rose by Giuseppe Luigi Cazzaniga which got a Primo certificato di merito in Monza in 1974, as reported in L'Italia Agricola 1974 by Coggiatti himself (issues VII-VIII page 31).

It was, I think, common practice for winning roses at Monza to be dedicated to the "madrina" or, as in the case of 'Gilles Villeneuve' to a celebrity the Associazione Italiana della Rosa wished to honour - posthumously in the latter case. These varieties entered the competition with just a code and left with a "nome di fantasia". That is almost certainly what happened with 'Romina'.

Probably Coggiatti got mixed up and thought that those roses were bred by the more famous Giuseppe Febo from Monza instead of the brother Giuseppe Luigi from Como!! ..... rather good breeder as well, as he got also two certificates of merit in Monza trials (in 1972 with BUL and in 1974 with CAM).

Missing Breeder in HMF!!!

Not Giuseppe Febo but Febo Giuseppe, of course. I completely agree about the "missing breeder": according to Giuseppe Luigi's niece Carla Cazzaniga (daughter of FG), her uncle bred three roses: 'Selvetta', 'Romina' and 'Dr. Aslan', a cyclamen pink HT.

Established that Romina is CAP, we have two roses (Selvetta and Dr. Aslan) and two codes (CAM and BUL). Will not be easy to find which is which!
