I strongly believe that 'Tamango' can cause both color breaking and spots. Perhaps its relatives can aid you further ^_^

Thanks! I was surprised at how intense the spotting was on one of the seedlings. It's opening right now.

I believe that capability comes out of Mutablis- in Snug Harbor, old blooms had spotting just like these seedlings. Paul Barden also mentioned getting spotting out of some China or another. The searing-orange family, mauve/purples out of Lilac Charm, and centiflora/gallica crosses do the same.

I probably should share trade secrets, but I cant help myself~ I am confident 'Prairie Sunrise' also induces color breaking. Because, well, proof is in the seedlings :]

It has been an interesting experience for me, since Freckle Face and Sevilliana are sisters, but my Sevilliana lines have not induced this same pattern of breaking colors :]

That is good about Sunrise! It isnt limited to dark purple-red, then.

Definitely not. Color breaking seems to happen in various strains, but Rosa foetida bicolor is one of the definite culprits. If it wasnt, we would likely not see ghostly mauves and silvers-mauves.

Foetida does a lot of very strange things.

It appears to be multigenetic- one gene makes the color "break" the other induces spotting.

Spotting not virus induced- extreme heat intensified spotting
