[...] Eugene Appert, the best of its descendants, has but the one point- coulour- in its favour, and will, I suspect, be relegated at an early date from the "stand" to odd corners in the border. I would earnestly recommend amateurs who cannot give roses the highest treatment to avoid this rose, and consequently its seedlings, such as ...Gregoire Bourdillon...
NB: It isn't completely clear if the writer means that the roses listed are seedlings of 'Eugène Appert' or of 'Géant des Batailles'.

We have, moreover, heard of (and indeed seen the stock of), one from the same raiser called Grégoire Bordillon, which in size, shape, colour, and vigour of habit, is believed to be a decided best on its papa.
