'Abraham Lincoln' rose References
Magazine (Aug 1865) Page(s) 256. N.Y. Rose and Strawberry Show....Mr. Burgess, who carried off the first prize for the best collection, exhibited two seedlings, one a Hybrid Perpetual of superb form, and having a much darker velvety hue than General Jaqueminot, and the other a Prairie, called "Abraham Lincoln." The color of the latter is deep rose, size large, and well formed, with an odor equal to any of the H. P.'s, and which will be found a desirable acquisition to the class of "Prairies,' as well as a 'charmer' to the lover of Roses. ...Discretionary award to A G Burgess, East New York, for seedling rose 'Pocahontas,' (renamed now Abraham Lincoln).
