Surprised to find that it has fragrant foliage especially when brushed or handled.

What a nice discovery! Your 'Blush Hip' probably has some Sweetbriar ancestry.
The word 'Hip' (or less often 'Hep') was once used as a synonym for the Sweetbriar (R. rubiginosa), but also, confusingly, for the Dog Rose (R. canina).
