Thank you Michael. I have presumed the introducer was Star Pennsylvania, and not Star California?

I assume so. The Star Roses site doesn't list where they are primarily, but the job opportunities page is 100% Pennsylvania addresses.

The name of this rose has been changed from Bloody Mary to Brick House.

Thanks. 'Brick House' added.

I feel like there is a Wizard of Oz joke in the name change.

Should probably be called Burnt Mary, or even Burnt Brick House. Petals burn severely in the sun, making for a distinctly unattractive bloom.

Yikes. Its bred from the same parent of Canyon Road, which seemed bomb proof in my garden. I didn't understand why they released another red from the same parent, when the first one seems pretty good.
The only bad part about Canyon Road was that it sent up 2 long limbs in September, but it was otherwise super resilient. I couldn't complain, since winter pruning fixes the issue.
The male parent of this one is Tamango, which brought us Preference, which seems really heat resilient. I guess Brick House (what a bizarre name..) just couldn't recreate that magic.

Agreed. Grow them both. Canyon Road can be a low growing octopus here too, but is otherwise good. I put Canyon Road so it grows over the edge of my deck, where it can octopus away all it likes. And I also like Preference here.
