This is a rare species known from only a single location close to Ganja city in open forests. Currently, the species is protected in the Gek-gel Reserve and used in horticulture. It may be subject to the effects of human activities in the wild, such as habitat degradation caused by clear-cutting, and needs stricter habitat management. This is a species of valuable medicinal and ornamental importance, with its principal threat from over-collection by the local population.
