Bred by Unknown Italian Breeder(s) (Italy, before 1850).
Introduced in Austria-Hungary (former) by Joseph Unterrainer in 1858 as 'Augusta Carolina'.
Class:
Hybrid suffruticosa.  
Bloom:
White, red undertones.  Large, semi-double to double bloom form.

Notes:
Possibly dedicated to Karoline Charlotte Auguste von Bayern (a.k.a. Carolina Auguste) (February 8, 1792 Mannheim - February 9, 1873 Vienna), daughter of King Maximilan I. Joseph of Baviera. After heer marriage in 1816 with Emperor Franz I of Austria she became Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary.
