‘Calocarpa’ = Hybride de Rugosa… fleurs simples et odorantes présentent les pétales fripés et les étamines d’or des rosiers rugueux, mais leur coloris semble varier, suivant les régions du monde, du rose pur au rouge intense en passant par le carmin lilacé, ce qui suggère soit l’activité d’un gène mutant de rosier de Chine, soit la coexistance de plusieurs variétés sous le même nom… rameaux minces hérissés d’aiguillons et garnis de grandes feuilles rudes, vert franc, légèrement gaufrées. Parfait pour constituer des haies, ‘Calocarpa’, dont le nom signifie «jolis fruits» en grec, se pare en automne de grappes de fruits ronds écarlates. Bruant, France, avant 1891. Peut-être Rosa rugosa x rosier de Chine inconnu.
