'Lord Kitchener' peony References
Booklet (1938) Page(s) 104. Balliol* (29L) Large, amaranth purple, early. Carpels inconspicuously hairy, with bright red tips; disk conspicuous, pink. Plant large and compact, with flowers showing well above the foliage. Lord Kitchener is identical.

NB: This description is probably of 'Lord Kitchener', rather than 'Balliol', with which it was confused in commerce.
