Hello Margaret,
I have the same rose, with identical description about the flowers, it is now in flower, (end of summer here), and continues until end of autumn, strong and delicious scent carries in the air, my plant it's not very old, almost 3 year, and it's grow 1,80m. height x 1,50m spread. I get it here in Argentina in a nursery that name it as Moschata Nepalensis, (I am sure it is not as bibliographic references: G.S.Thomas, Ch. Quest-Ritson, and HMFind).
Now the question is: ¿Is this rose 'Nastarana', or Rosa moschata plena?, and what are the differences?

Hello Rafael. I don't think your plant is the same as mine- yours is better! I don't remember mine looking like a double daffodil as your first photo does, with large petaloids and a yellow tinge. Mine had very small petaloids, and became ugly so quickly, I decided it wasn't worth growing. The old flowers in your photos are what mine looked like most of the time. I don't think mine was very strongly scented, either.
What yours, and mine, are, I can't answer. Maybe experts can.

Hello Margaret, I really think it's the same plant, I never expect this plant will grow and flourish so well!!, I get it in a Buenos Aires nursery, and there the flowers are not so double, have the little petaloids that turn brown quickly as also happens here, all depends how much sun and hot time. I took the photos early in the morning, and was a fresh day, but in the afternoon the central petals fade to brown rapidly.
As it seems, Rosa moschata continue to be a mysterious rose.
Any way, Margaret, thank you for your prompt answer, we hope that some expert enlighten us.

I would advise to looka t the article by Ivan Louette from 2002 in References. He has made the best analysis of "R. moschata nastarana"

Thank you. I don't think a Persian princess would appreciate being likened to the rose I had!
