Those thorns are ferocious !!

Yes Straw, they are ferocious. But as you can see in other photos, the old canes are almost thornless. It is only the young canes that have such ferocious thorns because Ibex love to eat them and this is nature's protection against the Ibex. I guess it only proves that everything in nature exists with a purpose. We must reflect on things in nature to understand that purpose.

That's interesting .. the newly bred roses like Firefighter have thorns at bottom, but youngest canes are thornless so it's great to cut for the vase.
