In my garden I started to plant modern roses I found in flower centers in Belgium. One day I maked up my rose list and had to conclude that most of the roses I planted were coming from Meilland, Kordes and Austin and that I had a preference for Floribundas.

My brother bought me a beautiful and interesting book. I discovered a new rose world of old roses. I learned about the work of Jean Laffay, Jules Margottin, Antoine Levet, Joseph Pernet-Ducher, François Lacharme, Joseph H. Pemberton and many others. As you all know these men have done not only a great job but have created a wonderful world. I'm still learning about the parentage of roses cultivated between 1835 and 1935.
My collection becomes more and more a combination of good old garden roses and some modern shrubs and modern climbers by replacing every year modern roses by healthy old roses with a good fragrance like Comte de Chambord, Salet, Général Jacqueminot and Paul Neyron. The early Musk Roses and the Noisette-Tea roses will take an important place in my garden as they are very healthy.

I wish you a good season 2011

georges
