Mandy's Rose Garden is located in a small township called Bullsbrook, East North East of Perth in Western Australia. This is how Mandy describes her garden:
The soil is mostly sandy with pockets of white clay, and outcrops of limestone. Where I am is zoned 10, but in high summer when the temperatures soar to over 40C and stay there for a week at a time, I think it needs a zone of it's own.

Either by dint of the climate and/or the very light soil, some of the rose bushes grow much larger than the books indicate, plus the early blooming of late spring and early summer, appear to produce more intense colour than is indicated by the book reviews.

I am fairly new to rose growing. My very first fully dedicated rose bed happened rather than be planned. I had hoped to achieve the old saying "a riot of colour". I have done that by combining roses and a few companion plants, in a semi-cottage style presentation. Even my In-Laws are impressed!!!

Season/summer 2003 (January/March) the nationwide drought, searing heat, and burning easterly winds took a toll on my roses. I lost 6 of my rose bushes.

The start to this years' summer with more abundant rains to our part of the land, have given my garden a glorious start.
