I have just started planting roses this summer the first two I rescued when a friend dug them up and left them on her deck for three days in the heat of the summer. I am in Kamloops and I am glad to report they not only lived but they have both bloomed and are are getting ready to bloom again. The third bush is a climbing Dortmund that is also getting ready to bloom however one tall branch has only dead leaves on it should I prune that back or leave it until spring? Also I hope I get my roses looking half as good as yours. You have an awesome yard.

I would leave the pruning till spring, unless the cane is black or very dark, then it is likely dead.
Thanks for Your kind comments, its been a lot of fun, and the roses look even great right now.
I have a very good friend in Kamloops, Trevor Venables, he grows very fine roses.
Great gardening, Pete
