Established 1900 by Louis Walter. Contains about 550 roses.
[From World Rose News, May 1998, pp. 20-21:] In 1898 Louis Walter, a postal employee and keen amateur breeder, decided to found a society with the object of spreading the love for and knowledge of roses. An announcement was put in the newspapers and on 9th August 1898 twent-one people met at the Hotel du Soleil where a provisional committee was formed. On 21st August the "Association of the Friends of the Rose of Alsave and Lorraine" was founded at a public meeting. Walter was elected Secretary. Rose shows and a rose garden were immediately planned. For the latter a hectare of ground, now near the town center, was made available by the municipality. The design was elaborated by the rose breeder Peter Lambert of Treves together with the horticulturist Seyller of Saverne. In 1900 the first nine hundred and forty roses were planted....
