It is hard. In Western Australia a lady called Meg Flynn gave Maurice Daw (both deceased now) budwood of a rose. Maurice was a member of the Rose Society of W.A. and when Maurice exhibited the rose, the Society considered the rose may be ‘August Noack’. From somewhere I picked up on a reference which said ‘August Noack’ deepens in hot weather but I now can’t find that reference !@! All I can find is the 1936 Hazlewood reference which said “sometimes quite dark”. In my cooler climate I haven’t really seen the rose deepen that much, but the nursery owner who gave it to me, said when she saw it here “What have you done to it? It was red in Perth”. I think it does deepen a bit, as the February 25 picture seems to be slightly darker. But I might have my rose-coloured glasses on. What do you think Margaret? Did your plant (from my rose) deepen in this last hot summer for you?
