Another rose rustling expedition. This time by invitation from my neighbor across the hill. I thought it was just a plain ol' rugoso, but the more I've searched it, the confused-er I've gotten. 2 years ago I pruned out dead canes, and there were only a few this time. The rose has received not a lot of pampering since planted 20+ years ago. The neighbor said she thinks someone gave her a start. It has gorgeous hips, light orange - red that have mostly softened and the flesh has a surprisingly very mild taste. I took 8 cuttings. Flowers are just gone. I found a single magenta petal. I remember it as a slight double with no, or very little, fragrence. It's emits some sucker. Technically, it is 2 plants about 3 feet apart. They are about 10-12' tall.
Thanks.

On new canes, thorns are straight, densely, randomly spaced and vary in size. As the cane ages, there are fewer and fewer thorns. It seems to be taller than most references to R. rugosa, so I thought it might be a recognizable hybrid.
