Rosa rubra, C.B. & Tab. Red rose. Rosa domestica punicea, Matth. hortensis rubra multiplex, Trag. Damascena, Lob. Sativa tertia, quae Provincialis gallis, Dod. These retain their fragrance best when dried and shrink more than others: therefore apothecaries use it to make fragrant things, rose vinegar and sour rose-sugar. On this type of rose bushes there are more sports than on others, as the rose is not on a stalk, but grows from a branchlet.
