(7 Aug 1909) Frank Fairey. A rose which must interest the Australian rosarían is Penelope., the first rose grown and raised in Australia. It is a wonderfully beautiful flower of quite a new color, the inside petal being bright yellow and the outside petals shading to blackish crimson, entirely a new color, and a fine rose.
(23 Mar 1932) Page(s) 16. New roses are constantly appearing. Yesterday a friend showed me a little note from Lady Hore-Ruthven, in which she said, "When I come back from the eastern States I must come and see 'myself' in your garden." I was wondering if her ladyship were to be mirrored in a pool, until it was explained to me that a beautiful luminous pink rose, grown by Alister Clark, had been named 'Zara Ruthven' after her.
