The Practical Book of Outdoor Rose Growing for the Home Garden, Fourth Edition (1917)

This is certainly one of the most beautiful vintage books on roses that I own. It contains nearly 100 color plates, each with a tissue page in front of it for protection. The photos themselves are exquisite. Unfortunately, almost all of them are of hybrid teas, but I guess they were the craze at the time.
This book was one of a series of "Practical Books" on various subjects—there is an ad for all of them in the book. "The Practical Book of Outdoor Rose Growing" cost four dollars in 1914 - quite a bit of money to spend on a book back then!. Captain Thomas dedicated this book to his friend, Dr. Huey.
