This article appeared in three parts in the newsgroup, rec.gardens.roses. It's commonly thought that the first Hybrid Tea is 'La France'. Dickerson presents information which strongly suggests that is incorrect and possibly earlier roses like Jean-Pierre Vibert's 'Elise Masson' might be better candidates for that honor.
