One day I received a small parcel bearing English stamps in our rural mailbox.  I opened it cautiously, not knowing what to expect, and discovered inside one of those tin crayon cases, about 20 x 10 cm and no more than 1.5 cm thick.  It was lined with damp blotting paper and along with the expected crayons, it also had four budsticks of a rose named Madame Melanie Soupert.  There was a note enclosed asking if I would grow this rose because it was not being grown in the UK and the writer, who was not known to me, did not want to see it lost.....The Melanie Soupert budwood was successfully budded onto rootstock.
