First established 1948 as a research station, operated 1959-2005 as The Institute for Cultivation of Ornamental Plants. The main focus in the rose area was investigation of resistance against black spot and mildew. Under Prof. Dr. Reimann-Phillip (d. 1995) various garden roses, R. multiflora and other wild roses were used in the breeding programmes. The results were transferred to some German nurseries.
