Professor Vasil Staykov is a Bulgarian hybridizer who worked on selective breeding and preserving of rose cultivars in the “Research Institute of Rose and Essential Oil Plants” in the town of Kazanlak as well as in the former “ Floriculture research center” in the village of Negovan, Sofia district. In collaboration with Ivan Kalaydzhiev and Hristo Chorbadzhiyski, Prof. V. Staykov introduced new hybrid rose varieties- Hybrid Tea Roses, Floribundas and Grandifloras with the beautiful Bulgarian names Srebra, Rada, Boryana, Mariya, Botev and others. The rose cultivar Marista, introduced by Prof. Staykov, won a gold medal at the 1981 exhibition in Erfurt. The cultivar Marista was named after Prof. Staykov’s wife - Mariya Staykova.

I note 'Srebra' and 'Boryana' are already listed by HelpMeFind. I am not sure if the spelling of a rose is 'Mariya' or Marista'? Do you have 'Rada' and 'Botev' in hand Jedmar, or shall I add them?	REPLY

The correct name of the rose is Marista. The rose cultivar Marista, introduced by Prof. Staykov, won and gold medal at the 1981 exhibition in Erfurt. The cultivar Marista was named after Prof. Staykov's wife - Mariya Staykova. Please add this to the description of the rose.	REPLY

Just for the sake of completeness, I will add that the original name and surname in the Bulgarian alphabet has the form: проф. Васил Стайков (проф. = prof.essor). Do you know a rose breeder Vasil Angelov from Bulgaria?	REPLY
