I agree with Ehann about the fine qualities of this Welcome Home HT yellow rose. I also got my Welcome Home as part of the J&P Test Rose Panel. It was a standout from the very beginning. The bush is super vigorous and constantly putting on new basals so it has plenty of canes to really load up with beautiful, big, well formed, and non-fading medium yellow blooms on strong necks so they don't nod. I just wish there were a bit more fragrance. I rarely detect more than a minor whiff of scent from it.
I haven't seen any fungus on my bush from day one and it breezes through winter with more green cane left than not. I do spray for thrips in the Spring because they attack all the light colored rose blooms including the medium yellow blooms on Welcome Home. Cucumber Beetles seem to find it delicious as well, but they do so little damage I don't spray for them as a rule.
I highly recommend this lovely yellow rose for anyones garden.
UPDATE 11/2010 NOw I have grown this for 4 years I have grown to appreciate what a truly great yellow garden display rose this is. The bush continues to be very vigorous growing and healthy and puts up lots of new basals all year long. It continually puts up new basal canes for more and more bloom production. My bush now has enough basal canes that I could easily split it up and end up with two or three bushes if I so desired. The growth habit is pretty much straight up so it doesn't encroach on it's neighbors. It gets tall at about 6' tall quickly early in the Spring. I very rarely see any blackspot and have never seen any mildew at all.
The blooms are gorgeous butter yellow and don't fade at all even in direct sun. They have great substance and can have excellent exhibition form for those that show their roses. It does need feeding to help with the exhibition blooms but not too much or you will get muddled centers. The cut rose lasts for many days in a vase and on the bush for 10-12 days depending on the weather. The stems are quite long, strong, and straight under the blooms and are usually a bit thorny too.
I think the Fall of the year shows it's best blooms. It seems to like the cooler weather. The blooms are larger and a deeper yellow and still hold their color with no fading of color all the way to deadheading. The blooms get up to 6" across in size in the cooler temps of Fall as well. I even have flushes when the nighttime temps get down to the mid-20's which is quite unusual for a yellow colored rose. Most yellow roses are winter tender, but this one seems to be more accepting of it. I live in zone 5 north of Kansas City and don't winter protect my garden roses and they all seem to make it through just fine.
It is a shame this rose isn't more widely known and grown as I think it is by far the best garden yellow rose on the market today. For some reason it seems that J&P didn't really do much advertising of this rose compared to some others that aren't near as good a rose as Welcome Home seems to be. If you like yellow roses you shouldn't be without this one. It really makes a great display rose because of the large quantity and size of the blooms as well as the quick repeat between the flushes. The excellent foliage health makes it very easy to care for by the novice rosarian so it is a good starter rose as well.
