Hello All! We're in the process of effectively starting a new garden from scratch (in UK). The garden was very neglected for many years, and very few plants survive. One that has is this rose. I think it is a miniature or a patio, but because it was swamped by weeds, it was forced to grow quite tall in order to survive, and is now about four feet in height, though this is on spindly growth. It isn't Orange Sunblaze (Orange Meillandina), as I've had a chance to compare the blooms side by side - my plant's flowers are very slightly larger and have yellow bases to the petals; Orange Sunblaze has white. My plant is also a little more orange - whereas Orange Sunblaze is more vermillion. What is it? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, Kay

Hello Kay.Good luck with the garden. Do you plan an actual rose garden? Where in the UK are you? I'm in Wiltshire, ten miles or so from Devizes and Bath. I've only just become a "rose fan" through helping with the watering (and I dead-headed the roses yesterday) at a local garden centre, where I clean the cafe on a Saturday.Hope someone is able to help you identify your pretty rose.Bye,Penny. :)

Hi Penny We're in North Wales, near Denbigh. Yes, I'm planning a rose garden - several actually! We have an acre an a half and at the moment we're still waiting for an awful lot of topsoil. I've always liked roses and wanted to have a fair number, but since starting to plan the garden, I've become even more enamoured of them - in the bits of the garden I can plant I've already put in 70 varieties, from ancient varieties such as Old Blush, Alba Maxima and Officinalis to the two roses of the year for 2006, Champagne Moment and Hot Chocolate. Thanks for your hopes for the identification of this rose - I hope someone can help, otherwise it will have to be known as 'the mystery rose' of my collection. Best wishes, Kay

Hi! It might well be a small floribunda. Looking at the picture of Princess Michiko though I don't think it can be her, as it seems to have larger, fewer petals. The petals on this rose are very tiny and numerous. Thanks for the suggestion and the good wishes! Kay

You'll have room, then, Kay, to allow some of the roses to grow and form their own shape without being cut back hard. LovelyBye.
