Does beautiful in my zone 5, Ohio, no spray, garden with no winter protection . One of my best performers with an abundance of blooms all summer long, superior disease resistance, excellent climber.

Hi Jody...I have been very fortunate to have very little if any winter die back. When I prune in the spring I cut out anything that has browned out and any spindly branches and she comes back with a vengence! I have had it for 4 years now and she more than doubles in size every summer. It might be a good idea to winter protect the first year though, I winter protect for the first year but not again after that. I just use mulch mounded up around the base and spread it out come spring and i don't cover them until after a week or so of freezing temperatures. I tried laying down the canes the first year and covering them, because it is widly recommended for climbers, but I got more winter die back then just leaving them tied nicely to the post so they don't get tossed around in the winds. ~truli
