This rose has been doing quite well in my garden on the southern tip of Vancouver Island without much pampering. It is said to lack in vigour but I can't complain. It keeps repeating for me all Summer long. The colour is quite stunning. More purplish pink than true red. It is a compact shrub, maybe 3 feet tall, the blooms have a nice fragrance.

Prospero is a short but constantly producing fragrant purple antique rose factory in LA.

Louise Odier is supposed to repeat but it doesn't for me. Since it is a healthy shrub and the flowers are so beautiful when they appear in early Summer I can live with that. It is definitely a keeper. Does anybody else share the experience that this rose doesn't repeat for them? I wonder why it doesn't repeat when it is supposed to do so.

Louise Odier does not like hot weather. If the weather keeps cool, during Spring and Autumm, it won't stop flowering. But, in hot weather, it does not perform very well: the flowers are smaller and the growth stops. Maybe that is what happens to yours, although it should repeat in Autumm.

This rose is about 4 foot tall in my garden and I have had it since 2004. Unfortunately, I don't like it's growth habit. It is a rather stiff and upright looking plant and only about 1.5 foot wide.  The plant itself  looks like a Hybrid Tea whereas the 2.5" cupped blooms resemble those of old garden roses. Unfortunately, the blooms are held on rather thin and wiry stems that cannot support the weight of the blooms. This means that the blooms are drooping downwards. This is not what I like to see on a small plant where I would much prefer that the blooms were facing upwards so that I can see the inside. Further, in my garden it tends to get some black spot.. I am considering to give this plant the shovel.

The growth of this rose is stiff and upright, it's not a nice looking shrub. It turned out to be quite susceptible to disease in my garden in the Pacific Northwest (blackspot).

In real life the colour of this rose doesn't look at all like what I've seen in pictures. I was quite disappointed with it's colour. To my eye, the colour is harsh and garish at any stage. I have since taken the shovel to it and it is no longer part of my garden.
