This rose blossomed for the first time in the U. S. 3-17-07
Roses Unlimited will begin propagating Manipur Magic April 2007.
I find the fragrance to be moderate to strong Tea. It's quite nice!, and the blossoms last a very long time.
To my mind 'Manipur Magic' is superior to 'Marechal Niel' in every way.

This rose is in the process of being registered under the name of 'Joanna Millar'

FYI, John, there are now a number of once and repeat flowering hybrids that involve gigantea and banksia here in the U.S.
We're continuing to refine them.

Are these the ones you have listed on HMF?. This rose has a bit of a history, it was a chance seedling at La Mortola decades ago, Joanna Millar took cuttings for her garden but the original was neglected and died. We obtained the rose indirectly via Martyn Rix and after we had been growing it for some time were contacted by Joanna Millar asking if we could register it for her. The rose will be exported to the States this Winter.

John, I have a number of new crosses including these and other evergreen species. Most include Tea and China ancestry.
I don't post most seedlings to HMF anymore. I figure I can always post them in time if I feel they are important enough.
'Joanna Millar' is quite intriguing. I wish we had more information regarding it's genetics.

I was intrigued by this rose when i came across it in the Martyn Rix rose book. I hope to try this rose here in the Georgia once it is available to us, since both parents do so well for us in the Deep South.

My 'Tradescant' is growing very large here in the South. It is in its second year and is 6 feet tall and wide with no signs of stopping. This rose bloom all summer last year even during the heat and drought. The fragrance is wonderful. If you want a fragrant, dark red, everblooming rose this is it!
