Anybody have any luck with Elle in zone 5? Sometimes I'm willing to take a chance, but every catalog and book desription I've seen , except one, list zone 6 as the minimum. Otherwise I would have snapped up the one I saw 2 summers ago at Lowe's. Fell in love with the scent and big bloom.

My Wayside Gardens catalog lists Elle as growing in zones 7-10.

This is probably the most beautiful rose I have ever grown. I grew it in Zone 5 right beside my front porch and facing north. If only it didn't hang it's head.

Yes, I agree this rose conceals its uncommon beauty until you lift its head- much like other discoveries in life that require a face to face meeting. Do you ever wonder if no other human, just you and God behold what no one else will ever see? Good thing there are lots of roses in the world to go around. L

Greetings! Question about Abraham Darby...
I am also in Zone 5 and have read many great reviews on Abraham Darby....Can it be grown in partial shade??
We have woods with mature trees, then smaller red buds and I was considering a row of Abraham Darby in the fore-front but was unsure if AD would tolerate some shade!
Please let me know! Thanks in Advance....

Jule.........
Go to the rose page for 'Abraham Darby' and click on the COMENTS & QUESTIONS tab and you will find several posts which have been archived on the HMF site about shade tolerance for this rose.

I tried to grow this rose in zone 5 with poor results. However, I didn't mulch it and I see that it grows in the Montreal Botanical Gardens. Now I'm in Zone 9 and hope to have better results. This is such a gorgous rose, the loveliest I've ever seen.
