I know it’s been many years since your query, but I wanted to let you know I have grown her successfully for several years in zone 5a.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents in here. I've now had this climber for 6 years - nearly shoveled it years 2-3 as it grew, but only had a single mediocre flush in the spring, and nothing more. HOWEVER, the last 3 years, it just gets better and better. HUGE spring/early summer flush, several smaller ones during the hottest part of summer, and then a nice finale in the late summer early fall. Not much scent to mine, but it sure is pretty. Also, it has surpassed the six foot mark every year (even when the canes died back to the crown) - nearly 10' - and I'm in zone 5a (north of Chicago)!
I typically mulch it approx 12" in the fall - but not always, and even at the worst, if it died back to the crown, it was well over 7' by mid August.

I'm glad it's finally begun to perform for you. Here in zone 10, it is a superb climber, remaining well within bounds and flowering beautifully. I was initially attracted to it because of the name. J&P introduced High Society and Social Climber that year and I really enjoy the name. I sold it at work (nursery) and have installed several in clients' gardens. They all report how much they enjoy it, too.

I planted two of these - one on each side of an arbor and they were beautiful and incredibly fragrant...but they both died during the winter two years ago. Have been fearful to replant with same. Does anyone know what zone they're hardy to? I'm in zone 5
