This shows the other side of it. I didn't prune it at all this spring, I was so shocked to see it alive and grown so big that I figured I better leave it alone. However, I do think I will give it a good hard pruning this fall.

Taken 6/7/08 in rural Henryville in Southern Indiana (US). This rose is 4 years old and this is the first year it's bloomed really well. I thought it was dead several times. This is the only rose out of 11 bare root roses from Jackson Perkins that made it on our heavily wooded land. The rose gets 3 hours of early morning sun and then about 3 hours of late afternoon sunshine. I have to say it's impressed me, even if it took 4 years, I didn't baby it at all, as I mentioned I was sure it was dead but left it in the ground anyway and now I have these lovely dark burgundy blooms, I think they must need a lot of sunlight to get the really bright red I'm seeing in some of these other photos.
