I am interested in the comment comparing firefighter to Mr. Lincoln. I love a red rose with good scent, but do not like roses that only last 3 or 4 days in the garden. Mr lincoln, oklahoma, and papa meiland all fall into the too short flower life catagory, although I have only had one bloom on a new own root oklahoma so far and have not passed final judgement yet. Kardinal and opening night last, especially kardinal, last in the garden but lack scent. I am looking for a good red rose with fragrance that will last at least a week in the garden. The best I have found so far is fragrant charm (royal william), which last 5 or 6 days. Will firefighter meet the need?

Dame de Coeur last a long time and keeps it deep red color. In fact, the longer it stays the darker it gets. I've had roses on the bush for almost two weeks at times --- and that's with the HOT glaring sun of Texas!

Try Vetran's Honor. Beautiful rose, nice scent. Lasts on the bush or in a vase.

Mr LINCOLN has the best scent of any red rose, but OPENING NIGHT is the most beautiful red color, which does NOT blue out, and it lasts for days! The stems are single & long. It is NOT as dark as BLACK MAGIC, which is also a superior red, if you like the deep, dark color.

I currently grow 20-some varieties of (unsprayed) roses in the San Jose, California area. The region is brutal when it comes to PM, almost all descendants of China roses are affected, even supposedly very disease resistant ones like Thomas Affleck and Duchesse de Brabant. Despite getting no sun until afternoon, Firefighter has never shown a speck of PM or rust, and when exposed to BS, displays almost no symptoms. Between that and its beautiful and amazingly fragrant blooms, it has become my favorite HT, and one of only 3 (going on 2?) that I still grow. The blooms on mine tend to last 5-8 days, so I can't really complain about that aspect, either.
