I am British, living in northern Japan, a climate very different to what I was used to! We have owned our own home for seventeen years now, and we took over an established Japanese garden in the front of the house (rocks, maples, etc) and a wilderness of weeds in the back.

I have been slowly making an English style garden in the back over the past two years and have been working on improving the front area, which was started well and then neglected due to the previous owner's poor health. I don't have much time, and I make a lot of mistakes, but I love my garden weeds and all!
